Feeling burned out is difficult. No matter what anyone says, we all at some point or another will experience it. Lord knows, it probably won’t happen only once.
There are tons of reasons why you might be burned out on something you’ve been passionate about. Overload, overwork, injury, stresses in other parts of your life, relationships, personal obligations—the list is endless. When I find myself in a rut, which happens frequently, here are just a few ways I can pull myself out:
1) Take a Break:
Burnout can be your body or brain’s way of asking for rest. You may feel guilt or other emotions for taking a break, but time away from your passion can give you new insight and create room for growth.
2) Remind Yourself Why:
Go back to what first got you started. Use that time warp to tap back into the spirit of what ignited your passion.
3) Find a Buddy:
Find a friend or group to help you stay motivated and feel accountable for your work.
4) Find a New Angle:
Approaching a problem from a different angle or perspective can be a great way to find new meaning in an old pursuit.
5) Be Nice to Yourself:
No matter how you go about getting through burnout, be nice to yourself. Beating yourself up over your feelings will not help those feelings go away any faster. In fact, it can do just the opposite.
Train smart and love who you are. J
